CD Duplication & Replication Services
As an official partner of Sony DADC, we pride ourselves on being one of the very best providers of CD duplication and replication services in the UK, and always strive for the highest levels of service and quality. Depending on your specific requirements, VDC Group can help you to find the best service possible and ensure that you receive a superior finished product.
CD duplication is ideal for small orders of less than 500 units, as it offers a fast turnaround of high quality, uncompromised discs that are perfectly suited to your requirements.
On the other hand, for runs of greater than 500 units, CD replication is typically the best solution. More cost effective than other methods when dealing with large quantities of discs, replication utilises injection moulding technology in order to achieve top quality results with every CD.
When Is CD Duplication Most Suitable?
If you require 500 units or less to suit your needs, our CD duplication services offer superior sound quality coupled with outstanding customer service and fast turnaround times.
We know that the data you want encoding onto discs is often vital to your business, and our professional approach to all of our clients ensures that you can be completely confident in the service that we provide. To make certain that all of our discs are resilient and of a uniform quality, we use high quality polycarbonate in their manufacture, and each and every batch undergoes strict quality testing.
Our process is carried out using towers. Each tower contains a bank of up to 10 separate duplication drives, which are similar to the units found in your own home or office PC allowing for a fast and smooth process.
Depending on your project, we will use as many or as few towers together as is required. Larger orders or urgent runs might see many towers linked to one master tower.
VDC also have drives that are able to be automatically loaded and unloaded using robotic arms which transfer blank CD-Rs to the drives from one spindle until the completion of the job, and then transfer the finished CD-R onto a second spindle at each tower station.
The disc drives use a laser to burn the required information into the recordable surface of the CD-R. We burn the CD-R at industry standard x4 Speed, this enables us to duplicate the data or music at the optimum level.
These automated systems help us to maintain a fast turnaround of CD-Rs and removes the risk of marking of the printed CD surface, as each disc is handled using vacuum cups incorporated into the robotic arm handling mechanism.
The approved finished discs are then stacked on a spindle ready for physical checking part of our quality control procedures Once approved, the quality-assured discs are ready for printing and packing;
Our digitally printed products use 6-colour Micro Piezo™ Technology™ and our high quality CD-R media. The printers deliver vibrant, life-like and razor-sharp prints.
The discs are loaded onto the first spindle on the printer, and each disc is automatically picked up and placed onto the print tray, which then passes through the printer whilst a print head moves quickly back and forth over the disc applying the ink in lines in much the same way as a regular inkjet printer prints onto paper.
We can also supply Smart-guard protective media that delivers both a smudge-proof and water-resistant protected surface.

When Is CD Replication Most Suitable?
There are many advantages to choosing CD replication over duplication when it comes to creating larger quantity batches. Unit costs are lower than duplicating discs and maintain the integrity of the data much better than when duplicating. In addition to this, there are more options available for high volume runs; such as being able to automatically assemble discs into jewel cases and other forms of sleeves and cases.
If you are looking for help for quantities of 500 discs or more, you can get the highest levels of quality whilst maintaining competitive prices by using VDC Group’s CD replication services. The process of replication involves injection moulding each disc individually to ensure a perfect result every time. Combined with quick turnaround times, this becomes the obvious choice when you are looking to create a large number of CDs.
Whereas CD duplication can be more cost effective for smaller batches of CDs and DVDs, when you are looking for larger volumes (500 or more), then it is more cost effective to choose a replicating service.
The process is different from the process of duplication in a number of ways to ensure standardisation of data. Firstly, a glass master is made from the original data, which other copies are to be made from. At this stage, the master disc and the original data is thoroughly checked to find any data corruption and ensure that the highest quality CDs are replicated. A stamper is made from the master copy, which is used to create each CD disc. Throughout the process, quality and accuracy is checked to ensure that each replicated disc is a fully accurate copy of the original disc.
